It’s been an exciting week for movie trailers as we got our first sneak peek at two of the biggest comic-based blockbusters of 2014: 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Additionally, the studios behind The Wolf of Wall Street and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues released the second official trailers for both films as the holidays quickly approach. Check out the five trailers getting major attention this week.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (Trailer 1)

Of the two blockbuster first trailers released over the past week, X-Men: Days of Future Past has garnered the most attention. The film works as both a sequel to 2006′s X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011′s X-Men: First Class while also existing as a follow-up to 2013′s The Wolverine. Based on the popular Marvel storyline Days of Future Past published in 1981, the film follows the X-Men as they are forced to join forces with the younger selves from First Class in a battle to save the future.

Days of Future Past features the return of director Bryan Singer who directed both X-Men and X2, and is widely credited as being one of the first directors to jumpstart the comic-based film genre. Featuring an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and many others, there’s a lot of hope that Days of Future Past will help return the original X-Men trilogy back to its roots while adding popular additions of the 2011 prequel film. Days of Future Past will be released in theaters on May 23, 2014.
