Now that we’re wrapping up 2013, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what we can expect from the the movie studios in the early part of 2014. If you’re a fan of action films, it looks like there’s a lot to look forward to. Here’s a look a five new movie trailers giving promise to the new year.

The Raid 2: Berandal — Trailer 1

The Raid 2: Berandal is an upcoming Indonesian action film directed Gareth Evans. The sequel to the 2012 action film The Raid: Redemption, which has become a cult hit since its release last year, has been praised for it’s astonishing action sequences, top notch directing, and a strong performance by the film’s lead, Iko Uwais, who is back for the sequel. Evans, a Welsh director based out of Indonesia, last impressed with the strongest of the four segments in the horror anthology V/H/S/2 and is now set to direct an untitled action-heist film for Universal.

Continuing right where the previous film left off, The Raid 2: Berandal follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover in order to infiltrate one of the most ruthless Jakarta crime syndicates in order to protect his family and stamp out corruption in his own police force. While the first trailer for the film doesn’t reveal much of the story and acts much more like a teaser, the images and sequences seem to reveal a widened scope and increased budget that should bode well for director Evans who has proved very skillful in creating high-octane action sequences even on lower budgets.
