All the top business stories of the day in the financial sector: 4 Financial Stock Stories to Lure Investor Attention

Credit Suisse (NYSE:CS): Current price $27.18

In April 2009, Credit Suisse decided not only to delist three exchange traded notes, but also to not liquidate them. This decision seems to have allowed the firm to avoid having to return the money to the note-holders, and then to continue collecting fees on the ETNs. Earlier in February, Credit Suisse finally reported the repurchase of those ETNs along with a fourth one that was presumably delisted prior to Tuesday’s trading.

Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE:GS): Current price $150.25

An internal Goldman Sachs memo said that Dorothee Blessing, co-head of investment banking for Germany and wife of Commerzbank’s Chief Executive Martin Blessing, is retiring from the American bank. Blessing joined Goldman as a financial analyst in 1992 and during the next 20 years, worked her way up to partner and then co-head of investment banking for Germany and Austria. The memo was viewed by Reuters on Wednesday.

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (NYSE:RBS): Current price $10.52

On Thursday, the Royal Bank of Scotland will announce that it wants to issue contingent convertible notes in the future, according to an inside source to IFR, sayingthat , “RBS is looking to sell a mixture of CoCos and Lower Tier 2 notes to increase its capital buffers in the coming years.” However, these notes convert into equity, or lose value, if the issuer’s capital holdings dip below a predetermined level and thus are far riskier than are traditional bonds and bank debt capital. It appears that RBS is following Barclays, whose Chief Executive Antony Jenkins said earlier in February that his bank would build contingent capital “over the next few years” and that he anticipates that loss-absorbing capital instruments should cover around 2 percent of its risk-weighted assets.

Radian Group (NYSE:RDN): Current price $8.46

The residential-mortgage insurer will probably accelerate the pricing of its two-part $440 million sale of equity and convertible debt. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs alerted investors Tuesday evening to price the deals ahead of the initial plan for it to take plavce Wednesday after the close. The change shows not only the magnitude of investor demand but also expectations that the firm would sell equity to support new underwriting of mortgage insurance.
