The Rams might trade the No. 2 pick if they can’t land Clowney

So now everyone’s primed to take a dive into the minds of the St. Louis front office. They need a quarterback. Badly. All respect to Sam Bradford, but there was a reason why everyone spent a year thinking that St. Louis had blown the trade with Washington. To make matters worse, this draft has a bunch of interesting quarterbacks. While the conventional wisdom says that the Rams need an offensive lineman and a QB more than a pass rusher, Clowney’s sheer talent makes skipping him a hard sell.

“I’ve learned over the years that you never have enough pass rushers,” St. Louis head coach Jeff Fisher told The Florida Times Union.“And I think it’s not only us, but other teams that are in our situation, are creative enough to find ways to get [Clowney] on the field and put him in a position to make plays.”

But if Houston, which got rid of its starting quarterback Matt Schaub during the off-season, grabs Clowney with the first overall pick, the Rams might trade out just like they did in 2012. At least, we’ve known since January that the phones are open, according to St. Louis General Manager Les Snead, even if the overall tone of the franchise is that they’ve yet to engage in serious discussions with any other teams about trading down.
