Will Toyota’s Move To Settle Lawsuits Out Of Court Calm The Fears Of These Top Institutional Shareholders?

Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE:TM) is taking an oft-used legal strategy to put their sudden acceleration lawsuits in the rear view mirror — taking the settlement route for litigation cases where the risk of an adverse judgement is high and fighting against those that could end up in their favor. Toyota has adopted this route in their sudden acceleration litigation involving more than 300 lawsuits pending in state and federal courts. They have moved to settle out of court two high-profile cases including one that was brought by a retired police officer, Michael Houlf, and the other by the family of Paul Van Alfen. Terms of  the settlement were not available.
