Will Dish Network’s Big Bond Investment Pay Off For These Top Institutional Shareholders?

The recent issuance of over $2 billion in bonds, in five year and seven year Senior notes, is indicative that Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) is moving ahead with large investments in its infrastructure, in departments “which may include wireless and spectrum-related strategic transactions,” the press release said. Dish Network is up against increasing competition with not only the likes of Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) and other streaming services and network providers, but now Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), which is scheduled to bring a web-based TV service to the market later this year. In order to diversify, Dish is rumored to be contemplating new avenues, such as mobile devices, to add to its core business. Chairman Charlie Ergen said recently that the introduction of a mobile network was a driving idea behind the firms purchase of Blockbuster, but regulatory delays have held up the process.
