Wearing the Green and Gold: A St. Patrick’s Day Style Guide
Dressing for a holiday that comes with its own color scheme can be a fashion accident waiting to happen. In the case of St. Patrick’s Day, with too much green and gold, well, you may end up looking like a leprechaun. Of course, if you don’t wear some variation of green, you could be subjected to pinching all day long.
Thankfully, it is a holiday, giving you license to have some fun and throw certain conventional dressing rules out the window. The easiest way to hit all the right notes is to pick one shade as your main St. Paddy’s color and use the other as an accent to your look. We’ve selected several standout pieces to get you inspired on how to wear green and gold on March 17.
To make them green with envy
A gingham springy, minty-fresh dress from the Gap (pictured) makes for a casual St. Patrick’s Day look. For the daring who are work-bound, there are the sateen pencil pants in green from The Limited. Or, in venetian green, the J. Crew Factory has a marvelous mini skirt that is currently on sale! Also on sale is a bright green cardigan from The Limited. For an edgier look, Zara has an Imitation Leather Skirt with gold zipper accents (pictured).
Even Scarlett O’Hara would be jealous of anyone wearing Modcloth’s Summer Night Stroll dress or in this ASTR scalloped tank top. Ralph Lauren has a green cotton crew neck, embellished at the shoulders with gold buttons. It can be worn with jeans or dressed up with a skirt for a day at the office.
