Mad Men: 6 Cocktails to Toast the Final Season
Mad Men‘s return is right around the corner. On April 13, the show returns for the first part of it’s final season. The details, per usual, are being kept under lock and key, but one thing is certain: there will be alcohol. To get your livers ready for the final season of three martini lunches and scotch on the rocks, here are six cocktails straight from the show.
For an authentic Mad Men cocktail, you have a variety of brands you can choose from. Canadian Club has featured prominently as far as whiskeys go, as has Johnnie Walker. Beefeater has made appearances on the gin side of things, and Stoli is of course Roger Sterling’s preferred brand of vodka. You can always skip the cocktails and go for beer, another alcoholic beverage of choice on the show. Budweiser and Miller have played parts, but it was Heineken’s role that led to a small spat between Betty and Don in season 2.
“Lobster Newburg and gimlets should get a divorce,” Betty groans in the second episode of season 1 as Don drives them home from a dinner with the Sterlings. A gimlet can be made with either vodka or gin, but as Imbibe Magazine explains, it is known for one key ingredient: Rose’s lime juice.
- 2 ounces gin
- 3/4 ounce Rose’s lime juice
- Ice cubes
- Lime wheel
Directions: Combine the gin and lime juice with ice in a shaker and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a lime wheel.
