Did you know there are more than 300 different kinds of honey in the U.S.? The National Honey Board states this is possible because honey’s taste will differ based on where the bee picked up the nectar. Broadly speaking, light honeys have a mild taste, and the flavors deepen with the color. With all of those potential flavor profiles, a dish made with honey can be constantly evolving as you alter which brand or type you purchase. To get your tastebuds buzzing, we’ve got 6 honey recipes ready for you.
1. Ricotta and Honey Sandwich
When snack time rolls around, spread a little honey and cheese on your toast like Saveur did. In the recipe, sourwood honey was used. Bee Raw describes sourwood honey as having a rich and buttery taste, with hints of maple in the finish.
- 2 slices oat bread or oatmeal bread
- 3 tablespoons ricotta cheese
- 1 teaspoon honey (ex: sourwood)
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions: Lightly toast oat bread until just golden. Spread one slice with ricotta, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with red pepper flakes, and top with remaining slice of bread.
