Honda Motor Co. (NYSE:HMC) did not do well during the month of December as car sales were off by a whopping 39% due to the scarcity of new models. Toyota Corp. (NYSE:TM) was down by 3.4%. However, Japanese car sales did have a good year in 2012 as they rose 26% to 3.39 million vehicles and were driven, in no small measure, by government subsidies that provided incentives for the purchase of fuel-efficient vehicles. These subsidies lapsed by the end of September and may have been the reason for the fall in December sales compared to the previous year.
