Ford Motor Co.’s (NYSE:F) Jim Farley, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Sales and Service, plans to deal with the perplexing issue of advertising fuel economy claims by becoming more “consumer-centric.”  The issue assumed importance after Hyundai and their Kia Motors unit were found to have overstated gas mileage claims by 1 to 6 miles per gallon. Ford has, in lieu of this, changed their advertising by doing away with numbers and instead are promoting a vehicle, such as the new Fusion Hybrid, by saying it “doubles the fuel economy of the average vehicle.”

Will Ford Moror Co.’s shareholders increase their holdings? They reported owning a total of 2.239 billion shares on 09/30/2012. The shares closed at $9.81 on 09/30/2012.
