Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) may be acquired by private equity firm Silver Lake and their partners Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. This deal is not likely to be topped by other bidders since Silver Lake has the support of Dell’s comprising founder Michael Dell. Dell has a 16% stake in the world’s number 3 PC producer and will participate in a buyout consortium. If the deal goes through with Silver Lake, this will result in a go-shop period, allowing the company to look for superior offers, but “when management is rolling over their stake and they have picked a partner, it is hard to top the agreed offer,” said one PE executive.

Will Dell Inc.’s shareholders increase their holdings? They reported owning a total of 42.395 million shares on 12/31/2012. The shares closed at $10.14 on 12/31/2012.
