As the markets were calm during the holiday week up until New Year’s, we highlight the top stocks that hit 52-week highs in today’s trading:
Royal Dutch Shell plc (RDS-B): Up 0.43% to $76.37.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG): Up 1.12% to $640.25. Google Inc. is a global technology company that provides a web based search engine through its website. The Company offers a wide range of search options, including web, image, groups, directory, and news searches.
Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE:PG): Up 0.18% to $66.79. The Procter & Gamble Company manufactures and markets consumer products in countries throughout the world. The Company provides products in the laundry and cleaning, paper, beauty care, food and beverage, and health care segments. Proctor & Gamble’s products are sold primarily through mass merchandisers, grocery stores, membership club stores, drug stores, and neighborhood stores.
Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE): Down 0.27% to $21.77. Pfizer Inc. is a research-based, global pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets medicines for humans and animals. The Company’s products include prescription pharmaceuticals, non-prescription self-medications, and animal health products such as anti-infective medicines and vaccines.
Philip Morris International, Inc. (NYSE:PM): Up 0.1% to $78.83. Philip Morris International Inc., through its subsidiaries, affiliates and their licensees, produces, sells, distributes, and markets a wide range of branded cigarettes and tobacco products in markets outside of the United States of America. The Company’s portfolio comprises both international and local brands.
GlaxoSmithKline plc (NYSE:GSK): Up 0.2% to $45.74. GlaxoSmithKline plc is a research-based pharmaceutical group that develops, manufactures and markets vaccines, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, as well as health-related consumer products. The Group, which also provides laboratory testing and disease management services, specializes in treatments for respiratory, central nervous system, gastro-intestinal and genetic disorders
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ): Up 0.03% to $39.99. Verizon Communications Inc. is an integrated telecommunications company that provides wire line voice and data services, wireless services, Internet services, and published directory information. The Company also provides network services for the federal government including business phone lines, data services, telecommunications equipment and payphones.
McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE:MCD): Up 0.4% to $100.55. McDonald’s Corporation operates and franchises fast-food restaurants worldwide. The Company’s franchised and company operated fast food restaurants offer a variety of low price fast foods in locations around the world.
Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT): Up 0.37% to $56.23. Abbott Laboratories discovers, develops, manufactures, and sells a broad and diversified line of health care products and services. The Company’s products include pharmaceuticals, nutritional, diagnostics, and vascular products. Abbott markets its products worldwide through affiliates and distributors.
Visa, Inc. (NYSE:V): Down 0.56% to $101.91. Visa Inc. operates a retail electronic payments network and manages global financial services. The Company also offers global commerce through the transfer of value and information among financial institutions, merchants, consumers, businesses and government entities.
Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE:KFT): Down 0.11% to $37.70. Kraft Foods Inc. is a food and beverage company. The Company manufactures and markets packaged food products, including snacks, beverages, cheese, convenient meals and various packaged grocery products. Kraft sells its products throughout the world.
The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD): Up 0.31% to $42.22. The Home Depot, Inc. is a home improvement retailer that sells building materials and home improvement products. The Company’s sell a wide assortment of building materials, home improvement and lawn and garden products and provide a number of services. Home Depot operates throughout the U.S. (including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam), Canada, China, and Mexico.
Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN): Up 1.15% to $64.42. Amgen Inc. discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets human therapeutics based on cellular and molecular biology. The Company focuses its research on secreted protein and small molecule therapeutics, with particular emphasis on neuroscience and cancer. Amgen concentrates on the areas of hematology, cancer, infectious disease, endocrinology, neurobiology, and inflammation.
Diageo plc (NYSE:DEO): Up 0.53% to $86.65. Diageo plc produces, distills and markets alcoholic beverages. The Company’s premium drinks brands include Smirnoff, J&B, Johnnie Walker, Jose Cuervo, Seagrams, Captain Morgan, Tanqueray, Baileys, Harp, and Guinness Stout.
CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE:CVS): Up 0.05% to $41.01. CVS Caremark Corporation is an integrated pharmacy health care provider. The Company’s offerings include pharmacy benefit management services; mail order, retail and specialty pharmacy; disease management programs; and retail clinics. The company operates drugstores throughout the U.S., the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
Eli Lilly & Co. (NYSE:LLY): Up 0.26% to $41.75. Eli Lilly and Company discovers, develops, manufactures, and sells pharmaceutical products for humans and animals. The Company’s products are sold in countries around the world. Eli Lilly’s products include neuroscience products, endocrine products, anti-infectives, cardiovascular agents, oncology products, and animal health products.
Southern Company (NYSE:SO): Up 1.39% to $46.54. Southern Company is a public utility holding company. The Company, through its subsidiaries, generates, wholesales, and retails electricity in the southeastern United States. The Company also offers wireless telecommunications services, and provides businesses with two-way radio, telephone, paging, and Internet access services as well as wholesales fiber optic solutions.
Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE:SPG): Up 0.57% to $131.00. Simon Property Group, Inc. is a self-administered and self-managed, real estate investment trust. The Company owns, develops, and manages retail real estate properties including regional malls, outlet centers, community/lifestyle centers, and international properties.
Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX): Up 1.08% to $45.94. Starbucks Corporation retails, roasts, and provides its own brand of specialty coffee. The Company operates retail locations worldwide and sells whole bean coffees through its sales group, direct response business, supermarkets, and on the World Wide Web. Starbucks also produces and sells bottled coffee drinks and a line of ice creams.
BCE, Inc. (NYSE:BCE): Up 0.74% to $41.05. BCE Inc., provides a full range of communication services to residential and business customers in Canada. The Company’s services includes local, long distance and wireless phone services, high speed and wireless Internet access, IP-broadband services, value-added business solutions and direct-to-home satellite and VDSL television services.
Dominion Resources, Inc. (NYSE:D): Up 0.91% to $53.43. Dominion Resources, Inc., a diversified utility holding company, generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electric energy in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The Company produces, transports, distributes, and markets natural gas to customers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.
Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK): Up 0.46% to $21.99. Duke Energy Corporation is an energy company located primarily in the Americas that owns an integrated network of energy assets. The Company manages a portfolio of natural gas and electric supply, delivery, and trading businesses in the United States and Latin America.
Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE:KMB): Up 0.12% to $73.82. Kimberly-Clark Corporation is a global health and hygiene company that manufactures and provides consumer products. The Company’s products include diapers, tissues, paper towels, incontinence care products, surgical gowns, and disposable face masks. Kimberly-Clark’s products are sold in countries around the world.
Enbridge Inc. (NYSE:ENB): Up 1.52% to $37.42. Enbridge Inc. provides energy transportation, distribution, and related services in North America and internationally. The Company operates a crude oil and liquids pipeline system, is involved in international energy projects, and is involved in natural gas transmission and midstream businesses. Enbridge also distributes natural gas and electricity, and provides retail energy products.
Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE:YUM): Up 0.46% to $59.30. Yum! Brands, Inc, owns and franchises quick-service restaurants worldwide. The Company develops, operates, franchises and licenses a worldwide system of restaurants which prepare, package and sell a menu of food items.
Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADP): Up 0.2% to $54.44. Automatic Data Processing, Inc. is a global provider of business outsourcing solutions. The Company’s services include a wide range of human resource, payroll, tax and benefits administration solutions. Automatic Data also provides solutions to auto, truck, motorcycle, marine and recreational vehicle dealers.
Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT): Down 0.11% to $81.32. Lockheed Martin Corporation is a global security company that primarily researches, designs, develops, manufactures, and integrates advanced technology products and services. The Company’s businesses span space, telecommunications, electronics, information and services, aeronautics, energy, and systems integration. Lockheed Martin operates worldwide.
General Mills, Inc. (NYSE:GIS): Up 0.1% to $40.61. General Mills, Inc. manufactures and markets branded and packaged consumer foods worldwide. The Company also supplies branded and unbranded food products to the foodservice and commercial baking industries.
NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NEE): Up 0.86% to $60.77. NextEra Energy, Inc. is a clean energy company. The Company, through its subsidiaries, generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electric energy utilizing natural gas, wind and nuclear resources.
The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX): Up 0.11% to $65.38. The TJX Companies, Inc. is an off-price apparel and home fashion retailer in the United States and worldwide. The Company operates off-price retail concepts in the U.S., Canada and Europe that offer a wide range of brand name and designer merchandise.
Reynolds American Inc. (NYSE:RAI): Up 0.05% to $41.74. Reynolds American Inc., through its subsidiaries, manufactures tobacco and smokeless tobacco products. The Company’s subsidiary sells its products in the United States and its territories.
American Tower Corp. (NYSE:AMT): Up 0.43% to $60.70. American Tower Corporation owns, operates, and develops wireless communications and broadcast towers in the United States. The Company leases antennae sites on multi-tenant towers for a diverse range of wireless communications industries, including personal communications services, paging, and cellular. American Tower also offers a variety of network development services.
Public Storage (NYSE:PSA): Up 0.89% to $135.71. Public Storage is a real estate investment trust. The trust’s principal business activities include the acquisition, development, ownership and operation of self-storage facilities in the United States. Public Storage also own an equity interest in an owner and operator of self-storage facilities in Europe.
El Paso Corp. (NYSE:EP): Up 0.65% to $26.37. El Paso Corporation operates natural gas pipeline and storage facilities, transports natural gas, and imports liquefied natural gas. El Paso also explores for and produces natural gas. The Company has operations in the United States, Brazil, and Egypt.
Spectra Energy Corp. (NYSE:SE): Up 0.36% to $30.98. Spectra Energy Corporation transmits, stores, distributes, gathers, and processes natural gas. The Company provides transportation and storage of natural gas to customers in various regions of the northeastern and southeastern United States, the Maritime Provinces in Canada and the Pacific Northwest in the United States and Canada, and the province of Ontario, Canada.
American Electric Power Co., Inc. (NYSE:AEP): Up 0.19% to $41.65. American Electric Power Company, Inc.(NYSE:AEP)is a public utility holding company. The Company provides electric service, consisting of generation, transmission and distribution, on an integrated basis to their retail customers. AEP serves portions of the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
The Chubb Corporation (NYSE:CB): Up 0.63% to $70.31. The Chubb Corporation, a holding company, offers property and casualty insurance, which includes personal, standard commercial and specialty commercial insurance. The Company provides insurance coverage principally in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and parts of Latin America and Asia.
Williams Companies, Inc. (NYSE:WMB): Up 0.34% to $32.82. The Williams Companies, Inc. is an integrated natural gas company that produces, gathers, processes and transports natural gas. The Company’s operations are concentrated in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, Gulf Coast, the Eastern Seaboard, and the province of Alberta in Canada.
Consolidated Edison Inc. (NYSE:ED): Up 0.84% to $62.50. Consolidated Edison, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides a variety of energy related products and services. The Company supplies electric service in New York, parts of New Jersey, and Pennsylvania as well as supplies electricity to wholesale customers.
Coca-Cola FEMSA S.A.B de C.V. (NYSE:KOF): Down 0.29% to $96.61. Coca-Cola Femsa, S.A.B. de C.V. (Femsa) bottles beverages. The Company bottles and distributes branded beverages in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina. In some countries Femsa also markets water, beer, and other products.
Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG): Up 1.27% to $463.47. Intuitive Surgical, Inc. design, manufactures and markets surgical systems. The Company’s surgical system controls Intuitive Surgical endoscopic instruments, including rigid endoscopes, blunt and sharp endoscopic dissectors, scissors, scalpels, forceps/pickups, needle holders, endoscopic retractors, electrocautery, ultrasonic cutters, and accessories during surgical procedures.
H. J. Heinz Company (NYSE:HNZ): Up 0.3% to $54.31. H.J. Heinz Company manufactures and markets processed food products throughout the world. The Company’s principal products include ketchup, condiments and sauces, frozen food, soups, beans and pasta meals, infant nutrition and other processed food products.

HCP, Inc. (NYSE:HCP): Up 1.17% to $41.66. HCP, Inc. is a real estate investment trust. The Trust invests in health care related real estate throughout the United States. HCP’s properties include senior housing, life sciences, medical offices, hospitals, and skilled nursing homes.
Progress Energy Inc. (NYSE:PGN): Up 0.63% to $55.97. Progress Energy, Inc. is an integrated electric utility that provides energy and energy-related products and services in the Southeast United States. The Company serves electric and gas customers in the Carolinas and in Florida.
Goodrich Corp. (NYSE:GR): Up 0.02% to $123.42. Goodrich Corporation supplies aerospace components, systems, and services to customers located worldwide. The Company manufactures various aerostructures, aircraft evacuation systems, passenger restraint systems, sensor systems, pump and engine controls, de-icing systems, and other products. Goodrich serves the commercial, military, general aviation, and space industries.
Humana Inc. (NYSE:HUM): Up 0.26% to $89.83. Humana Inc. is a managed health care company with medical members located in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Company offers coordinated health care through health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, point-of-service plans, and administrative services products. Humana offers its products to employer groups, government-sponsored plans, and individuals.
Hershey Co. (NYSE:HSY): Up 0.87% to $61.53. The Hershey Company manufactures chocolate and sugar confectionery products. The Company’s principal products include confectionery and snack products; gum and mint refreshment products; and food and beverage enhancers such as baking ingredients, toppings and beverages.
Ecolab Inc. (NYSE:ECL): Up 0.6% to $57.25. Ecolab Inc. develops and markets products and services for the hospitality, institutional, and industrial markets. The Company provides cleaning, sanitizing, pest elimination, and maintenance products, systems, and services. Ecolab provides its services to hotels and restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, light industry, and other customers located worldwide.
W.W. Grainger, Inc. (NYSE:GWW): Up 1.57% to $192.31. W.W. Grainger, Inc. distributes maintenance, repair and operating supplies, and related information to the commercial, industrial, contractor, and institutional markets in North America. The Company’s products include motors, HVAC equipment, lighting, hand and power tools, pumps, and electrical equipment.
