‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Gets a New Trailer
Guardians of the Galaxy’s release date is fast approaching, and the movie trailer barrage continued Tuesday as Marvel released the third full-length trailer for the film, aimed at U.K. audiences. The decidedly conventional trailer eschews many of the previous trailers’ quirkiness and humor — which most would argue is the point of the film to begin with — but it does offer some additional information about the film’s story before it is released on August 1.
Although Guardians of the Galaxy stands to be the least conventional offering in the recent Marvel canon, it still looks as though viewers can expect an origin story that focuses on Peter Quill/Star Lord (Chris Pratt). In the early portion of the new trailer, we see previously unseen footage of Peter Quill as a child on Earth before being abducted, and we get a better sense of what his character’s journey throughout the film might look like. A scene showing a young Peter Quill taken by a spacecraft in an empty field is probably the standout of the new footage, again displaying the film’s strong visual effects.
The trailer also features some previously unseen footage of both Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper), among other glimpses of action set-pieces. The addition of Rocket footage in particular, and the chance to hear more of Cooper’s voice acting, is sure to please fans of the genetically engineered, wise-cracking raccoon. Missing in the new trailer, however, is a better look at the film’s villain, Nebula (Karen Gillan), whose recent images have won approval from onlookers.
