True Detective fans have been eagerly awaiting any news of casting for the show’s highly anticipated second season for the past several months, and this week, two more actors’ names have been thrown into the mix.

According to The Wrap, funnyman Vince Vaughn is in preliminary talks to play the main antagonist in HBO’s anthropology drama series, and he’s not the only big name up for a part. Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss is also reportedly being eyed for the female lead of the upcoming season of the show.

So far, several big names, including the likes of Jessica Chastain and Christian Bale, have already been dropped in connection to the second season of True Detective. Chastain later denied any participation in the project, and it seemed viewers were back to square one with their speculation. Then, in mid-July, it was reported that Colin Farrell was deep in negotiations to take on a main role. At the same time, Taylor Kitsch was named as the leading candidate for the younger lead male character. Moss and Vaughn’s potential casting would likely be an addition to Kitsch and Farrell’s roles.

Up until this point, audiences haven’t been able to garner many details regarding the plot of the show’s second season. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto has remained tightlipped about the script, other than confirming that it’s set in the “much lesser known venues” of California and will revolve around four central characters. Now, fans are finally getting a closer look at what those roles will entail.

Per The Wrap, the second season of the hit series will follow the death of Ben Caspar, a corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who’s been murdered amid a controversial transportation deal. Three law enforcement offices from different branches of government are then put in charge of the investigation and soon find out there could be more to the murder than they first thought.
