Billboard Hot 100: Disclosure and Iggy Azalea Rocket Up the Charts

This week on┬áthe Billboard Hot 100, singles from Disclosure and Iggy Azalea made big gains while Pharrell William’s “Happy” kept its number one spot in the song’s sixteenth week on the charts.

The song that climbed the furthest in the charts for the week was the single “Latch” by Disclosure and featuring Sam Smith, which rose from the 79th spot to the 59th. Following that was white female rapper Iggy Azalea’s single “Fancy” featuring Charlie XCX, which went from 37th place to 18th. Ingrid Michaelson’s “Girls Chase Boys” was in third in terms of the biggest gains, rising from number 98 to nab the 82nd spot. British pop band Rixton saw their single “Me and My Broken Heart” move from number 55 to number 41 in its fourth week on the charts. Australian teen boy band 5 Seconds of Summer saw their single “She Looks So Perfect” rise from number 66 to number 55.

Disclosure is an English electronic dance music duo made up of young brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence. The band has gained fame from a collaboration with Lorde at the BRIT Awards and their debut album Settle was nominated for a Grammy for best dance album. The single “Latch” was already a hit in the UK and is now climbing the charts stateside. Disclosure has been hailed as the first group to embrace true house music within the EDM genre, and those house roots have made the duo’s music popular at clubs with a slightly older audience than most EDM artists.
