The Hundred-Foot Journey, a new movie from Swedish director Lasse Hallström, is just the latest food-themed film to entice moviegoers by featuring mouthwatering dishes. Based on a book of the same name by Richard C. Morais, The Hundred-Foot Journey stars Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal, and Charlotte Le Bon. In the film, Helen Mirren plays Madame Mallory, a widow who owns a renowned restaurant in a small French village. After an Indian restaurateur played by Om Puri opens his own establishment in the same village, a conflict erupts between Madame Mallory and the newcomers. Not surprisingly, various types of French and Indian dishes play a large role in the film.

The Hundred-Foot Journey has received mixed reviews from the critics and currently only has a 66 percent approval rating from the critics at Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, The Hundred-Foot Journey has been awarded an 85 percent audience approval rating. The film also appears to be well on its way to becoming a commercial success. According to Box Office Mojo, The Hundred-Foot Journey has already recouped its $22 million budget since its release on August 8, with an estimated domestic gross of more than $23.6 million so far.

While The Hundred-Foot Journey may have failed to impress some critics, there are plenty of other food-themed films that have garnered almost universal rave reviews. If The Hundred-Foot Journey whetted your appetite for more films featuring food, you may want to sample some of the following titles, which have all been “Certified Fresh” by the critics at Rotten Tomatoes. Since there are so many great films that feature food, the movies included on this list were selected purely on the basis of personal taste (no pun intended). However, the films are listed in order of their critical reviews, from worst to best. Here are five films that mix good food with great performances and stories.
