Infiniti’s Eau Rouge Is a Lean, Mean, GT-R Powered Machine
When Infiniti (NSANY.PK) introduced its Eau Rouge edition of the Q50 in January at the Detroit Auto Show, it was sort of an empty threat. Aside from the aggressive aerodynamic work and black accenting, the Eau Rouge possessed little that would make the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63, Cadillac CTS-V, or Audi S6 quake in their boots — including an engine. But in Geneva, the Eau Rouge has become a viable threat, with the beating heart taking from Nissan’s (NSANY.PK) mental GT-R.
In the GT-R, Nissan’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 produces 545 horsepower (though a tad more in the higher trims; the Nismo model is good for 600), but in the Eau Rouge, the unit puts out 560 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.
“Building on the extremely positive feedback on the Q50 Eau Rouge at its recent Detroit Auto Show launch, we decided to further whet the appetite of performance sports sedan fans by engineering this powerful heart into our blood-red beast,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Infiniti, in a press statement. ”A car with such pronounced styling treatments demands the very best in terms of high-performance powertrains, which is why we installed this V6 twin-turbocharged, 7-speed combination as an example of what a potential powertrain for the Q50 Eau Rouge may look and sound like.”
As a measuring stick, the GT-R can make it to 60 in less than three seconds (in the Track Edition trim), and on to a top speed of 196 miles per hour. More incredible still is that this is from a six-cylinder engine, and the car costs far less than its competition from Italy or Germany. Further, that’s 15 horses below the count assigned to the Eau Rouge.
