Engineer and scientist jobs are always ranked among the top jobs. I'm starting to suspect some propaganda bullshit. There's always an initiative to get more work horses into the job market to drive the economy higher. Cheaper working units and more output.

This country doesn't respect engineers and scientists. They love athletes, and entertainers. In the social and professional ladder of the corporate world, you are at the bottom. The business men, sales executives and the financers are the top dogs. They make the big dollars, and get respect in and out of the office. Expect to be isolated in a cube, and treated like a machine as a engineer. Maybe after 5-10 years you will get into a management position. The typical working hours are high, and the majors are difficult to achieve, yet the salaries are very mediocre. Your salary is also very vulnerable to globalization. Engineer and scientist majors are popular in India and China, the two most populous countries in the world. Their services are available to international market at much lower rates because of extreme differences between the economies of those countries and the U.S.

Do your own due diligence before committing yourself into a engineering and scientist job.
