China Has More Internet Users than the U.S. Population

The number of Internet users in China (NYSE:FXI) increased to roughly 485 million as of the end of June, an increase of 6.1% from six months ago. That figure has the current penetration rate at 36.2% of the population, according to the survey conducted by the China Internet Network Information Center.

Of the 485 million users, 387.22 million used broadband fixed-line access modes at home and 317.68 million used mobile devices like smartphones. The average time spent on the internet was 18.7 hours for the month.

At the end of June, there were 331.627 million IPv4 addresses, 7.861 domain names, and 1.83 million websites in China, which had a total bandwidth of 1,182.261 Gbps for international internet connections. China Telecom (NYSE:CHA) was the largest ISP in terms of bandwidth, followed by China Unicom (NYSE: CHU), with just over half the bandwidth of Telecom, then China Mobile (NYSE:CHL), CSTNet, and CERNET.

Some of the most popular websites for Chinese Internet users include Baidu.com (NASDAQ:BIDU), SINA (NASDAQ:SINA), Sohu.com (NASDAQ:SOHU), NetEase.com (NASDAQ:NTES), and Youku.com (NYSE:YOKU).
