The Fastest Cars of the Past Two Decades

Speed is a motivating factor behind many car purchases, but supercars with incredible price tags are often out of reach for many consumers. That doesn’t mean car buffs can’t get their fix from the sidelines, though. With every passing year, new models, designs, and concepts are constantly pushing the limits of speed and performance.

Automakers are constantly churning out concept vehicles and setting lofty goals, often with world records in their sights. But it’s not as often that those plans and concepts make it from paper to the track, and even theoretical speeds can’t always be attained. Over the last 20 years, the evolution of supercars has taken them from fast to incredibly fast, and after seeing the advances that have been made over the past decade alone, the upcoming decade looks ripe for jaw-dropping performances.

We took a look at the fastest cars produced in each year going back the last 20 years, to 1994. We excluded one-offs, concepts, and race cars, and the performance of each respective vehicle included is listed at what its specifications were when it left the factory floor. We opted to include cars from Hennessey, which modifies vehicles, since the Texas-based firm has played such an integral role in the world’s need for speed.

Read on to see the fastest cars produced in each year for the past 20 years, from 1994 to 2014.
