Few cars bring more smiles per mile than convertibles, and as summer nears, it’s that time of year again. To commemorate the recently warming weather, the powers that be at Edmunds.com asked their readers to vote for what they believed was the best bargain in today’s convertible landscape.

For the most part, the cars — all in their base trims — fall below $30,000, and many even under $25,000 (and some even lower still). While topless cars were once seen as premium members of automotive society, the class is becoming increasingly affordable, allowing more and more people the opportunity to soak up some rays while behind the wheel.

Here are nine convertibles that offer a fine balance of fun, style, performance, and most importantly, value.

9. Smart ForTwo

The quirky and minuscule Smart ForTwo has developed a sort of cultish following and is favored in cities as it can be parked or maneuvered just about anywhere. While it’s not the most practical of beasts, the removable roof certainly adds to the Weeee! factor, and at $17,930, it’s among the most affordable convertibles on the market (though the electric version, pictured, will obviously cost a bit more). Only 0.5 percent of Edmunds’ respondents chose the Smart as the best bargain convertible out of the lot.
